What's Included

What We Provide in Cap Installation.

A proper chimney cap stops four problems at once — rain, snow, animals, and downdraft. We install four cap types depending on your chimney style, your aesthetic priorities, and whether you want energy-saving sealing built in.

01

Single-Flue Stainless Caps

316L stainless steel caps with mesh screen and built-in mounting brackets. Blocks rain, snow, animals, and burning embers from drifting onto your roof. Lifetime warranty against rust.

02

Multi-Flue Custom Caps

One cap covering multiple flues — fabricated to your exact chimney dimensions. Cleaner exterior look, better weather seal, easier maintenance access. Built in our shop, installed in a day.

03

Decorative Custom Caps

Copper, oxidized iron, hammered black steel — show-piece caps that match your home's architecture. Functional and beautiful. We design, fabricate, and install in-house.

04

Top-Sealing Damper Caps

A cap and damper combined into one unit — seals airtight when not in use, saving 10–15% on heating bills. Throat dampers leak. Top-sealing dampers don't.

"Annual cleaning has been done by Chimneys Empire three years running now. Same crew every time, and they remember our chimney's quirks — the offset flue, the tight smoke chamber. That kind of consistency is rare. Worth every dollar."

Why do I need a chimney cap?
Four reasons: keeps water out (preserves the crown and flue), keeps animals out (raccoons, squirrels, birds), keeps burning embers from blowing onto your roof, and improves draft by blocking downdraft from wind. A $250 cap protects thousands of dollars of chimney structure.
What's the difference between single-flue and multi-flue caps?
A single-flue cap covers one individual flue tile and mounts to the tile itself. A multi-flue cap is a custom-fabricated metal box that covers all flues at once and bolts to the chimney crown — better weather seal and a cleaner look on multi-flue chimneys.
Are decorative caps as functional as standard ones?
Yes — fully functional with the same mesh screening, weather protection, and animal exclusion. Copper, oxidized iron, and hammered steel caps cost more but last just as long, and they age beautifully over time.
How long does a chimney cap last?
316L stainless steel caps: lifetime (warrantied). Galvanized steel: 5–10 years. Copper: 50+ years. Aluminum: 10–15 years. We install only stainless or copper for residential use — galvanized fails too quickly in Connecticut weather.
Will a cap stop animals from getting into my chimney?
Yes — when properly sized and installed. Our caps include 3/4" galvanized mesh screening that excludes raccoons, squirrels, birds, and bats. We also remove any animals already living in the chimney before capping.
What does cap installation cost?
Standard single-flue stainless cap: $200–$450 installed. Multi-flue custom cap: $600–$1,800 depending on chimney size. Decorative copper/iron caps: $800–$3,500. Top-sealing damper caps: $400–$900. Free quotes always.
How long does cap installation take?
Standard single-flue cap: 30–45 minutes. Multi-flue: 1–2 hours. Decorative custom: 2–4 hours. Top-sealing damper: 1–2 hours. We can usually install during the same visit as your inspection or sweep.
Can I install a chimney cap myself?
Technically yes, but the install requires safe roof access, correct sizing for your specific flue tile (or crown), proper mounting hardware, and the experience to spot pre-existing chimney damage before mounting hardware to it. Most DIY caps fail or fall off within 2–3 winters.
