How often should I have my chimney inspected?
The CSIA and NFPA both recommend at least an annual Level 1 inspection for any active fireplace or wood stove. If you've recently bought the home, had any work done, or noticed any change in performance, a Level 2 inspection with camera footage is the right call.
What's the difference between Level 1, 2, and 3 inspections?
Level 1 is a visual check of all readily accessible parts. Level 2 adds a video-camera flue scan — required after any change of system or property sale. Level 3 involves removing concealed components (firebox bricks, walls) to inspect hidden hazards after a chimney fire or major event.
Are your inspections really free?
Yes. Our standard Level 1 inspection is free with every appointment, with no obligation to book repairs. Level 2 camera scans and Level 3 forensic inspections are paid services — you'll always get the price upfront before we start.
How long does an inspection take?
A standard Level 1 inspection takes 30–45 minutes. A Level 2 camera scan adds another 20–30 minutes. Drone aerial surveys are usually 15–20 minutes. We always confirm timing during the call.
Will the inspection make a mess in my home?
No. Level 1 and 2 inspections are clean — we use drop cloths, HEPA-filter vacuums where needed, and never disturb soot or debris. Level 3 inspections involve removing components and require more cleanup, which we always handle ourselves.
Do you provide a written report?
Yes. Every paid inspection comes with a digital report including photos and video clips of any concerns. Free Level 1 inspections include a verbal walkthrough plus a written summary of any findings on-site.
Can drones really see what climbing a ladder can?
Better, in many cases. Our 4K drones zoom into details on the crown, cap, and upper masonry that aren't visible even from the roof. Plus we capture high-resolution photos for your records — and avoid risking falls.
When should I book a Level 3 inspection?
After any chimney fire, lightning strike, earthquake, severe weather event, or anything else that may have caused hidden structural damage. Insurance often requires a Level 3 before approving claims, and we're happy to coordinate with adjusters.
